10th May 2024 - Photographing the NORTHERN LIGHTS IN DORSET!
On the night of May 10th, 2024, the skies above Wimborne in Dorset illuminated with a rare and magical display: the Northern Lights. While typically associated with far northern regions like Norway or Iceland, this celestial phenomenon made a surprise appearance much further south, treating us lucky photographers to a spectacle rarely seen in these parts.

I had just finished running 3 back-to-back, week long Spring workshops with just one day of rest, and with only 5 hours sleep in 3 days, was running on very little fuel… HOWEVER, when an alert kicks off on every single app, every single news outlet and every single astro-photographer starts shouting about it, you don’t go to sleep.
For photographers and stargazers alike, this unexpected event was an opportunity not to be missed. The aurora borealis, with its ethereal ribbons of green, purple, and red, danced across the night sky like I’ve never seen it before, my home town of Wimborne, Dorset was the safest I could drive, so I went on the hunt for some unique compositions (knowing too well the popular spots like Knowlton Church, Horton Tower and so on would be absolutely packed).
